Even though we have a pretty good remote work culture, it is always good to sit together and whiteboard.
Last week I went to Hanoi to have an all hand meeting with our software engineers. Since I know a tech lead who worked at a few FAANG companies I asked him to join us.
Recently we migrated our servers from Heroku to AWS as part of our client's requirements. Our devops took that opportunity to design a more scalable and modular architecture (leveraging AWS's EKS) in preparation for heavier traffic in 2021. The team got together and did a informal knowledge transfer session with him on the new architecture along w/ cost/tradeoffs.
Afterwards, we went through our github/gitlab code commit/deploy process and reviewed our system architecture and performance issues.
Overall it was an informative session. It was nice to see everyone face to face. Vietnam has 0 new cases of Covid recently so we were not wearing masks. A much different work environment vs the USA.
