Recession causes more companies to hire contractors

The number of contractor hires jumps 25% compared to previous year, according to Linkedin data. This is due to companies playing in safe amidst a recessionary atmosphere. They don't want to commit to full time employees and its disadvantages, some of which are:

  • costly, time-consuming onboarding and offboarding period
  • investment in training
  • long term budget commitment
  • stress/morale issues/lawsuit risks associated w/ layoffs

But work still needs to be done. So instead of freezing development, they turn to contractors.

With our software engineers being primarily from Vietnam, a clear advantage is cost. Correspondingly I have seen a big uptick in inbound inquiries.

In tough times, the most resilient will survive and thrive.
