A call to preseed or seed founders

At Black Gibbon we have a very unique business model:

• FAANG leads who act as tech PMs,  providing a high quality software product and tons of knowledge transfer
• Remote, highly vetted engineers from a cost effective country
• Continuous non stop fast agile development (midnight PST is noon in Vietnam).
  

For a pre-seed, seed startup speed to market is everything.  The main gripe with remote is it is better at an early stage to be collocated. But they are other factors that must be seriously considered:

• Months spent to hire a full time California engineer
• Cost (3x to 6x higher)
• HR complexities/costs (paperworks/benefits/etc)
• Messy breakups (much easier to end contractor's term of employment)

On the the flip side, being a part time tech PM gives the FAAANG engineer first hand exposure into the chaotic startup world as well. He himself will also learn a lot. And who knows, he may even quit and join your company :)
