Data workers in Vietnam and a case of social impact

News

I am currently consulting for a midsize Bpo company in Vietnam. They have around 700 workers on hand, spread across different small cities in Vietnam (Danang, Tuy Hoa, Pleiku, etc) The owner is half paralyzed. 20% of his staff is physically handicapped. 80% of his staff is women. And 100% come from the rural area, where access to health care, education is severely limited.

It was truly an enlightening experience to meet this man in November 2019, visit his office and see his workers fast at work, annotating data for some of the world's biggest conglomerates. At 100% accuracy level. His mission was simple:

To provide a dignified job opportunity for the disadvantaged. And an opportunity to break away from the vicious poverty cycle and move up the ladder of life.

Without a company like his, these people would still be living a marginalized life, on the street, living hand to mouth. Now they are working in an office environment, with healthcare and other benefits.

AI will transform the world as we know it. And companies who build AI models will need tons of labelled data. It is Blackgibbon's mission to provide this annotation service at the highest quality and at scale. All the while providing job opportunities for those Vietnamese, regardless of their education, social, economical background, and physical abilities.

Please join me on this journey of change.
