About Blackgibbon

Bringing Vietnamese software tech pod and QA pod to North America clients.

Who We Are

I am Dat Nguyen, currently based in Southern California and Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. I am the founder and CEO of Black Gibbon. In my previous job, I was Venture CTO for Boston Consulting Group, Digital Ventures, where I built/managed a team of elite software engineers to launch/scale innovative software ventures for world's most iconic brands.

Before BCG, I spent 3 years in Vietnam, running several successful (and not so successful) tech startups . I also taught Computer Science classes at RMIT University, Saigon campus.
While in Vietnam, I noticed a severe lack of English literature/community. This motivated me to organize an English bookclub, whose members gathered monthly for various public speaking/storytelling events.

Prior to Vietnam, I was a software engineer in Silicon Valley, working for ATK (acquired by Northrop Grumman), Nasa and Unspam (acquired by Cloudflare).

I am Duc Ngo, currently based in Silicon Valley, USA and part time tech PM for Black Gibbon. I am also a senior software engineer for Google, working in the Adwords group.

Before Google, I was a senior engineer at Facebook and Addepar. I am a World Finalist (ACM-ICPC) and Bronze Medalist (IOI).

A decade ago I founded VNOI, a Vietnamese Olympiad in Informatics community, which is running strong to this day.

I am Tuyen Luu, team leader for Black Gibbon. I am based in Hanoi, the beautiful capital of Vietnam.

I handle day to day operations including recruiting, managing, system architecting (and everything else in between) to ensure success in project implementation and delivery.

Before Black Gibbon, I spent many years working as a software consultant, with enterprise clients from Asia, North America and Europe. My highlight was leading a complex, 10 person-strong, multi-year healthcare software project for a big Japanese hospital client.

I graduated with Honors from Hanoi University of Science & Technology (HUST) in computer engineering and am active in recruiting from my alma mater.

Corporate Mission

We strongly believe in a flat world, where talents can come from different cultures, backgrounds and work harmoniously. We also believe in continuous workflow, assisted by modern tools like Slack, Zoom, Gitlab. Instead of spending millions in branding, marketing and ads, we keep the team lean with most of our staff being engineers. That enables us to recruit the brightest Vietnamese engineers at minimal cost. And we pass that savings to you.

Vietnam is uniquely 12 hours ahead of USA. When our clients in the USA go to sleep, they pass the baton to us (in a short 30 min sync up call) and we run with it. Our VN coders work on tickets that are not related to US tickets. Our QAs find bugs that were just freshly checked in by the US dev. Our maintenance team removes legacy technical debt, improves performance and cleans up the DB.

Time and time again, this has unlocked a brand new software development paradigm of we-work-while-you-sleep workflow, solving our clients' most pressing challenges and unlocking unprecedented time-to-market.

Community

We stay active in local universities, providing scholarships and training (coding and language) for local Vietnamese. Our QA pod consists of at least 50% women.

Careers

We are currently hiring biz dev/marketing/account executives in North America. Feel free to reach out if you see the future in what we do.
